Recipes > Cameo Gourmet Caramel Apples

8 Cameo® apples
8 wooden Kraft sticks
2 14 oz. bags of caramels
4 tbsp. milk

Directions:
1. Wash and dry Cameo® apples and remove stems. Insert sticks into stem end of each apple and refrigerate for about 15 minutes. Or put them in the freezer. Chilled apples help the caramel set.
2. Microwave caramels and milk in a microwave-save container (deep and roomy enough to immerse and rotate one whole Cameo® apple) on 50 percent power for three minutes, or until smooth. Stir once or twice while cooking. If sauce is too thin, let stand about two minutes before dipping apples.
3. Dip skewered Cameo® apples into warm caramel sauce and turn until thickly coated. Remove excess caramel from bottom of the apples and place on a buttered tray or greased wax paper. Refrigerate one hour until firm and sticky to the touch.
4. Decorate as desired (M&M’s, chocolate sprinkles, cookie crumbs, chopped nuts, etc.) and store in refrigerator until ready to serve.
5. Before serving, let stand at room temperature 15 minutes to allow caramel to soften.

TIP: The secret to perfect Cameo® gourmet caramel apples is NO SKIMPING ON CARAMEL! That’s why our recipe calls for two bags, instead of just one, for a rich, thick decorating base.

Gourmet Decorating Ideas:

Pecan/Chocolate: Roll warm Cameo® caramel apple in chopped pecans. Cool for about 20 minutes in refrigerator and drizzle, first with melted white chocolate, and then with dark chocolate.

Coconut/Almond: Roll warm Cameo® caramel apple in coconut and/or sliced almonds. Cool, then drizzle with melted chocolate.

Chocolate drizzling tip: Pour melted chocolate into a plastic bag and seal well, pushing out any excess air. With scissors, carefully cut corner of bag to make a very small hole and use like a cake decorator. Drizzle chocolate while turning Cameo® apple.
