CAMEO® APPLE IS ALL-AMERICAN FOURTH OF JULY TREAT

WENATCHEE, Wash. – June 12, 2003
Cameo apple growers in Washington state are serving up an All-American treat this Fourth of July that includes fresh blueberries and cherries in a rustic apple tart recipe.

Cameo is a new variety of apple noted for its thin skin and sweet taste that holds its shape and flavor in many cooking applications.

" As American as apple pie, the Cameo apple rustic tart is a delicious new take on serving red, white and blue foods for the Fourth of July holiday,” said Kevin Precht of the Cameo Apple Marketing Association (CAMA). “This recipe helps remind shoppers to use apples in all their favorite summer recipes.”

Cameo apples and a recipe for Cameo apple rustic tart can be found in supermarkets across the country.

Known as one of the best eating apples, Cameos have an irresistible combination of sweet-tart flavor and crisp crunch.

Born in the USA, the Cameo apple variety was discovered in a Washington state orchard in the 1980s and has been grown commercially for the past four years. Cameo apples are now the sixth largest variety of apples grown in Washington state.
